Dear Friends,

Some mornings, hope feels like that first strong cup of coffee—warm, steady, and awakening. It jolts us from sleep and whispers, “Today can be different.” That’s what Day 7 is about: creating a 180, turning from old rhythms that keep us trapped, and finding a new beat of freedom.

As a drummer, I know the power of rhythm. When the beat is steady, it drives the whole song forward. But if I get caught in a broken rhythm, the whole song falls apart. Life is like that. When I stay stuck in old patterns—seeking validation, chasing approval, needing the next “hit” of someone else’s attention—I’m off-beat, out of rhythm, and losing the melody God has for me.

When Validation Feels Like a Drug

Today’s reflection was piercing: I confessed that I feel like an addict at times, chasing validation like a drug. The more I seek attention from unhealthy sources, the more I feel rejected, ashamed, and trapped in the same old cycle.

But God reminds me—I am not alone. His Word says:

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers…will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
— Romans 8:37–39 (NIV)

This truth is the steady drumbeat beneath my life. No matter what voices try to drown it out, God’s rhythm of love is unshakable.

Making the 180

The journal asked: What does “living hope” mean to me personally?

For me, it means my life is actionable. I can move forward. I can change. I can break free from the old song and choose a new rhythm.

Here’s how I see it:

  • Old Rhythm: Seeking attention and approval from unhealthy sources.

  • Result: Rejection, loss of self-esteem, repeating cycles, craving the dopamine hit.

  • 180 Rhythm: Focusing on self-worth, self-love, and self-appreciation.

  • Result: Freedom. Freedom from the strings of an abusive partner. Freedom to walk in God’s tempo of grace.

When I play this new rhythm, the melody of my life comes back.

Freedom Awaits

My hope goal today is crystal clear: Freedom from contact and communication that always pulls me back in. That old rhythm doesn’t serve me anymore. I’m laying down that broken drumstick and picking up a new beat.

I know I am strong enough to look away. I know I can rise. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes—or a drummer finding the right groove again—I can step into freedom with courage.

With God’s strength, I will not stay down. I will get back up. Day by day. Beat by beat. Hope is rising.

5 Practical Tips for Day 7

  1. Name the Pattern. Write down one unhealthy cycle you’re stuck in—it loses power when you call it out.

  2. Choose the 180. Identify the opposite feeling, action, and result. Claim it as your new rhythm.

  3. Set a Hope Goal. Define one step you will take today to break free from the old beat.

  4. Anchor in Truth. When you crave validation, replace it with Scripture or a hope-filled affirmation.

  5. Visualize Freedom. Picture yourself drumming a steady, strong rhythm—the heartbeat of hope that carries you forward.

💡 Hope Reminder: Just as one strong cup of coffee can awaken your body, one steady rhythm of hope can awaken your soul. You are redeemed, loved, and never alone.
