Companion to the 4-Part Blog Series: Are Abusive Relationships Still Controlling You?
Blog 1: Waking Up from the Brew of Control
Theme: Setting Boundaries and Saying Yes to Yourself
Musical Anchor: Tell Your Heart to Beat Again from Danny Gokey’s Rise album
Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30 — “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Practical Tip: Start setting small boundaries using the “When you… I feel… I want…” communication method.
You’ve left the relationship, but do you still feel trapped? Abuse leaves behind not just scars but confusing control that keeps you in its grip.
It’s time to learn boundaries—not walls to keep people out, but healthy limits that protect your heart and soul. As the Stronger than Espresso® guide teaches, boundaries start with defining how you want to be treated, communicating those rights, and standing firm when they’re crossed.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28-30
Practical Tip:
Try this small step: When someone crosses your line, say:
“When you [behavior], I feel [emotion], and I want [clear boundary].”
For example, “When you raise your voice, I feel scared, and I want to talk calmly.”
Musical Inspiration:
“Tell Your Heart to Beat Again” — a song reminding you that your heart’s freedom begins with saying “no” to what hurts.
Remember:
Be seen. Be heard. Be understood. There is hope.
Your journey begins here—with boundaries that help you rise.
