Dear Friends,
Today marks Day 17 in our journey. We pause to remember the truth of A Live Fret. In music, a fret is what gives clarity and strength to a note. A live fret vibrates freely, filling the air with resonance and melody. A dead fret, on the other hand, silences or dulls the sound.
The same is true in our healing. Abuse and trauma can leave us feeling like dead frets—muted, broken, or numb. But when we reclaim hope, healing, and faith, we come alive again. We become a live fret—our voice rings clear, our spirit vibrates with God’s truth, and our soul finds rhythm once more.
Inner Music and Worship
Scripture reminds us:
-
“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.” — Psalm 40:3 (NIV)
-
“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” — Colossians 3:16 (NIV)
The Hebrew word shiginoth (Habakkuk 3:1) is a musical term meaning a prayer or psalm set to melody. It reminds us that worship isn’t always orderly—it can be free, soulful, even full of lament or triumph. Worship is not only about singing; it can be drumming, dancing, journaling, or simply letting your heart beat in rhythm with God’s love.
For me, learning to drum this past year has transformed the way I worship. My sticks on the kit are prayers. My rhythm becomes a heartbeat of gratitude and surrender. This is how I now read Scripture and journal—with music as my companion, carrying me deeper into God’s Word.
5 Inner Music Tips
-
Sing a Scripture – Take a verse and hum or sing it back to God, letting His Word set your melody.
-
Drum a Prayer – Use rhythm, even on a table or with your hands, to release praise, lament, or gratitude.
-
Journal with Lyrics – Write down a worship song line or phrase that resonates, and reflect on what it means for your healing today.
-
Move with Worship – Let your body join your music. Dance, sway, or simply breathe in rhythm as a form of prayer.
-
Create a Daily Soundtrack – Choose one song each day that carries you through. Let it become your inner anthem of hope.
