🧬 When Your History Becomes Your Healer
Working in domestic violence response, many of us uncover deep-rooted wounds we never healed. My own Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) score is 9 out of 10—a silent burden I thought I buried long ago. But trauma is patient. It waits until we show up for others before reminding us we still need someone to show up for us.
“We heal in community, but we also carry our history alone.”

🎵 Soul Songs for Survival
-
“Aubrey” – longing for love that didn’t remember you
-
“Make It With You” – the desire for true connection, even when you feel broken
-
“Mother Freedom” – the first breath after releasing childhood chains
These songs echoed my own footsteps on the path from wounded to whispered prayer.
🔄 The Spherical Tool: Generational & Spiritual Axes
Trauma doesn’t stop at the personal—it’s generational and spiritual too.
-
Generational: high ACEs often lead professionals to over-function, numb, overgive. Our training attracts us deeply—and dangerously.
-
Spiritual: we may misuse God-language to justify sacrifice, martyrdom, or neglect of boundaries. That’s a spiritual abuse we rarely acknowledge.
💡 Why This Matters
If you’re a caregiver who’s experienced trauma, you may be:
-
Over-identifying with client stories
-
Believing “If I just do more, it’ll get better”
-
Using faith as a shield, not a healing path
-
Losing sight of your own soul’s needs
🌱 4 Takeaway Tips
-
Know Your Score – If you haven’t taken an ACE quiz, do it. Then journal about what the score means for your work today.
-
Notice When You Overgive – A healthy boundary isn’t selfish. It’s survival.
-
Reparent Through Prayer or Ritual – Speak gentleness over yourself in Bible meditation or restful rhythms.
-
Rebuild With Intention – Use the Stronger than Espresso steps: design a daily rhythm that nurtures your body, mind, and spirit.
