Scripture:
“Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.” – Isaiah 49:23 (NIV)

📰 A Tragic Reminder of the Danger of Stalking

Recently, two 17-year-old girls in New Jersey were struck and killed in what authorities are calling a stalker-motivated hit-and-run. The suspect had allegedly stalked one of the victims for months before the fatal crash. This heartbreaking story is a reminder that stalking is not harmless—it is dangerous and can escalate to deadly violence.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we cannot overlook stalking as a form of abuse. For two years, I was stalked by a former partner. I know firsthand the fear, the exhaustion, and the hopelessness it can bring. Stalking is a tactic of control, intimidation, and destruction—and it must be named for what it is.

🎨 Broken Crayons Still Color

Life sometimes feels like a box of crayons spilled on the floor—some whole, some worn down, and some broken into pieces. My own journey has felt like that: shattered, messy, and cracked by abuse, rejection, and trauma.

But here’s the truth: broken crayons still color. Sometimes their hues are deeper, richer, and more impactful because they have been pressed and tested.

Just like a sentence or a life journey can feel broken, that doesn’t make it useless. Brokenness doesn’t erase meaning—it invites us to repurpose, recycle, and reinvest ourselves. Even in the cracks, there is color. Even in the fragments, there is value.

🌿 The Hope Ingredient: Oceans of Strength

Hope is like the ocean tide—constant, powerful, and ever-moving. Waves of hardship may crash against us, but beneath the surface, hope flows steady and unseen. It carries us forward when we feel like sinking.

When despair whispers, “You are too broken,” hope replies, “You still matter.” Without hope, healing stalls. With hope, transformation becomes possible.

The song Oceans by Hillsong captures this prayer perfectly:
“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders.
Let me walk upon the waters, wherever You would call me.
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander…”

🪞 Reflection & Application

Self-Reflection Questions:

  • Where in your life do you feel broken? How might God still use that place to bring beauty?

  • What lies of rejection or fear do you still carry?

  • What would it look like to trust God’s love over the pain of being overlooked or replaced?

Hope Application – Reclaiming Self-Worth:

  1. Write down one thing you love about yourself today.

  2. Pray over it, asking God to help you believe it.

  3. Speak it out loud, even if your voice shakes.

  4. Anchor it in Scripture (Isaiah 49:23—“those who hope in me will not be disappointed”).

  5. Keep it visible—on a mirror, phone, or journal page.

Journaling Activity: Replace a Lie with Truth

  • Write one lie of rejection you’ve believed (example: “I’m not chosen”).

  • Then write one truth from God’s Word to replace it (example: “I am chosen and dearly loved”).

  • Speak the truth aloud daily until it becomes your reality.

🛡️ 5 Safety Tips if You Are Being Stalked

  1. Trust Your Instincts – If you feel unsafe, you probably are. Take your feelings seriously.

  2. Document Everything – Keep a log of incidents, texts, calls, or encounters. Save screenshots and voicemails.

  3. Strengthen Your Boundaries – Block numbers, adjust privacy settings, and let others know not to share your info.

  4. Alert Your Support System – Tell friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers what is happening so they can help protect you.

  5. Reach Out for Professional Help – Contact local law enforcement, a DV advocate, or call the Stalking Resource Center Hotline: 1-855-4-VICTIM (1-855-484-2846).

✨ Closing Declaration

I may bear scars of brokenness, but God’s love lifts me. Broken crayons still color, and so do I. Abuse, rejection, and stalking tried to erase me—but God’s hope rewrote my story.
